Good Girl, Bad Blood
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Genre: Fiction, Mystery, Young-Adult, Thriller, Contemporary, Crime.
It’s the second book of the series A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.
After binge watching the series in a day or two, I had this sudden urge to read the next part of this series.
Synopsis: Pip has left her detective days behind, channeling her energy into a true-crime podcast she created with Ravi Singh, based on the case they cracked last year. The podcast has taken off, capturing the attention of listeners everywhere, but Pip is determined to move on from investigating.
That changes when Jamie Reynolds, someone close to her, vanishes on the same night as the town’s memorial for Andie Bell and Sal Singh. With the police unwilling to act, Pip is pulled back into the hunt for answers. As she digs deeper, she unearths more of the town's hidden darkness. But with time running out, the question remains—can she find Jamie before it’s too late?
Review: Holly Jackson's writing is clear and engaging, almost like watching the series in the mind, especially after watching the first season. She includes things like podcast transcripts, text messages, and news articles, which makes the story feel more real. This mixed-media style helps the reader feel more involved in the investigation.
The story moves quickly and keeps readers hooked. The tension builds with each chapter, especially as Pip gets closer to finding out dangerous secrets. The urgency stays strong, making it hard to stop reading.
Good Girl, Bad Blood is full of unexpected and well-done plot twists that keep readers on their edge of the seat. Just when you think you know what’s coming, Jackson throws in a surprise that changes everything. These twists feel natural and add to the excitement of the story.
The growth of characters of Pip and Ravi feels genuine and emotional, with Pip’s journey from a beginner investigator to a more conflicted and self-aware person adding depth to the story. Their relationship also grows stronger as the time goes, with more understanding and love between them.
The clues are scattered in the book and are revealed slowly in the book which makes us engaged with the book waiting for that perfect end to come together.
Conclusion: "Good Girl, Bad Blood" is a fantastic sequel to Holly Jackson’s first book. It’s packed with suspense, mystery, and strong character development. I highly recommend it to fans of young adult thrillers, true crime lovers, and anyone who enjoys a good mystery. Whether you liked the first book or are new to the series, this sequel will keep you hooked from beginning to end.
